Hey everyone! Can we chat? In a recent post I spoke about how I thought I may have been going through a “midlife crisis” earlier this summer just before my 39th birthday. Lawdhavusmercy! In realizing something wasn’t right with me, my amazing hubby offered for my birthday to send me away for 2 nights at a hotel. Whaaattt?! I agreed to this amazing gift of course. So let’s talk about what I’ve coined as the Mommy Refresher Weekend.
Now to be honest, he first offered to send me away with 2 of my girlfriends so we all could get a break, but after thinking about it I decided to not go that route. I’ll be honest and say I was selfish (sometimes you need to be) because I didn’t want to have to plan for others and make sure they would have a good time too (that’s important to me if I’m a host). So we agreed this would be a solo trip then started discussed locations and hotel options. After considering many factors, I decided to stay local but at a hotel I hadn’t been to in a while. I decided to stay at the Long Island Marriot next to the Nassau Coliseum. (Fun Fact: Hubby proposed to me there and I got dressed there for our wedding in 2006).
So I was like…okay this will be nice blah blah blah BUT as the weeks and days got closer I became more and more excited. I started to plan what I wanted to do. I started to day dream about being in the hotel room alone. I started to plan what to wear. I started to buy little items I wanted to bring with me. I know this is only for 2 nights ya’ll but I was all in!
So I go to work that Friday and as soon as 4:30p hit I was on the parkway heading to the hotel. Traffic of course was a damn bummer. So hubby reserved me a room one of their larger rooms with a King size bed with a view of the Nassau Coliseum and it was perfect! Now I had already planned to have my first booty-call (with hubby of course LOL) that night. Hubby came to the hotel room not long after I checked in. We planned to have room service for dinner and he would be my dessert (oh yah) but I got greedy and had dessert first (wink wink). We enjoyed a few hours together then I kicked him out so he can get back to the kids. LOL! After that I was ready to start my solo weekend.
So what did I do for 2 nights by myself? Anything I damn well wanted!!! I was on a mediation challenge at the time so I did my meditation then watched TV and went to bed. My booty call wore me out! Day 2 was my only full day so I made the most of it. I had scheduled a mobile masseuse to meet me at the hotel for a full body massage. Sydney was great and that massage was everything I needed (I’ll link her deets below). After Sydney left I got dressed to take myself to the movies. I watched an Amazon Studios film Brittany Runs A Marathon. It was a great movie and I saw some of me in the character especially being on my own healthy journey. I went to Michaels to get stickers for my new journal. I started journaling during this weekend. I also went to Marshalls and bought a few items for ME. It doesn’t sound like much but for me it was just what I needed.
I realized from this weekend that I was just going, going, and going like the damn Duracell bunny and not stopping to enjoy the present or not switching up the mundane. This weekend was definitely not part of my usual routine. Let this be a reminder to you to keep things spicy for yourself too (not just your relationship). I wasn’t doing that and it showed in my personal life.
Did I come back refreshed from the first Mommy Refresher Weekend? I SURE DID!! I’ll be honest and say I didn’t know what to expect from this weekend. I didn’t know if I would really be refreshed but I can honestly say I did.
After my day out on the town by myself I came back ot the hotel room and literally Netfilxed and chilled. I checked out Sunday morning early. Hubby and I had to attend a business seminar in Manhattan so I didn’t get to sleep in but I felt good and I felt ready to continue to day and go back to reality. The business seminar was followed by a yacht cruise for networking and it was just a beautiful day in NY to cruise the city skyline.
So would I do another Mommy Refresher Weekend? Yup! Would I suggest it to others? Yup! Yup! It was a great 2 nights and I’m already planning for my next one in the spring. I termed my weekend a Mommy Refresher Weekend since I ‘m a mom, but a refresher weekend really would be beneficial to anyone that just needs a break from the everyday to get back to you. It worked for me and will work for you.
